Readers:  Try to imagine pictures of bald eagles scattered throughout this newsletter as it is on our church hard copies.

I don’t use clipart or photos in this electronic newsletter because it often makes it too large to send and for some, to large to download.

Today is our annual church picnic held at a nearby park so I always speak about something of God’s creation in nature.  Today, it will be the eagle.

Like an eagle that stirs up its nest and hovers over its young, that spreads its wings to catch them and carries them on its pinions, so the Lord alone did lead him (us).

(Deuteronomy 32:11, 12)

They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; they shall walk, and not faint

(Isaiah 40:31)

Praise the LORD, O my soul; all my inmost being, praise his holy name.  Praise the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits - who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion, who satisfies your desires with good things so that your youth is renewed like the eagle's.

(Ps. 103:1-5)

Our Sympathy

TIMOTHY GUILES, Sharon’s 38-year old nephew fell asleep in Christ Aug. 23rd.  He had battled liver cancer for some time.  Besides his own mother and father (Neil & Karen Guiles), he leaves behind his wife, Teresa, and three children: Ryan, Bradley and Taylor.  At the time of this printing, day and time of services are not available.  Please lift up this family in your prayers.

IRIS A. HORST (who has been on our prayer list for some time and was a close friend of Frank Roper), passed away Aug. 21st of cancer.  She had been retired for the last 17 years, having worked in research at Case Western Reserve University and the V.A. Medical Center.  Her and her husband, Craig, have been to our church.  Remember the family in prayer.

We’re Glad to Have You with Us Today at

Our Annual Church Picnic!!

DOROTHY ROBERTSON entered Ashtabula hospital again Aug. 21st (see went in also on Aug. 10th).  We regret that she has been diagnosed with cancer and at this point we’re not sure of the next step in her care.  It’s possible she may be home by today.  Continue to keep her in your prayers.  She very much appreciates them.

IT’S NOT TOO EARLY to mark in your calendar Kent Ross’ “THRIVE Loving & Learning Conference” to be held at North Hills Church (Springfield OH) November 8-10.

Just look at some of the names that will be there teaching:  Anthony Buzzard, Ken Howe, Janet Stilson, Dale Swartz, Ray Hall, Dave Hixon and others!  Mark Cain will be leading the music and Rex will have an early morning Bible class.  Lots of great music!  PLAN TO ATTEND!

PLUS: Time to attend Wright Patterson Air Force Museum, go shopping, go antiquing and more!

Subject: Earthquake in Peru

From: "David Krogh" <dkrogh@abc-coggc.org>

Date: Thu, 16 Aug 2007

Bill Wachtel talked to Pastor Beder in Lima this afternoon and found that he and his family are safe after the earthquake in Peru yesterday.  We are praising God for his protection while at the same time being mindful of the many Peruvians who were killed or injured in this quake south of Lima.

A Humours Paragraph from Jim Mattison’s African Report:

CHITTY CHITTY BANG BANG

Shall I mention our used rented van (and driver Chibwana (means big boss)?  Maybe it is sufficient to say it broke down 4 times, once at night in the middle of nowhere. We thanked God for cell phones. But how can I forget the cracked windshield, no visor on my side, and the side door that was always coming off its rollers? Broken timing chain, lost all our oil, electric system went out, twice. The last time a man in white appeared, asked if we needed a mechanic, said there was one just down the side road by us. While a nearby Lodge picked us up, that mechanic had the fuses needed to get us going again, with lights. (When the first breakdown occurred we had to get out and push the van off the road so as not to get hit in the dark.)

That God Created, Consistent at 45%

A story in Editor & Publisher states that a new Gallup report reveals that more than half of all Americans agree with the statement: "God created man exactly how the Bible describes it." Another 31% says that man did evolve, but "God guided." Only 12% back evolution and say "God had no part." Gallup summarized it this way: "Surveys repeatedly show that a substantial portion of Americans do not believe that the theory of evolution best explains where life came from." They are "not so quick to agree with the preponderance of scientific evidence." Support for the biblical view rises steadily with age: from 43% for those 18 to 29, to 59% for those 65 and older. It declines steadily with education, dropping from 58% for those with high school degrees to a still-substantial 25% with postgraduate degrees. Gallup has asked this question, in different forms, going back to 1982, but has consistently shown support at 45% or higher for the notion that "God created man in present form."
