Communion Meditation

The following heavily edited letter that Angela Moore wrote to some friends provides an encouraging word about prayer.  I felt it would lift our hearts heavenward in praise to God on this day we give praise for His richness to us in Christ around the Lord’s Table.  Angela authored the book, “Maggie Seeks The Kingdom of God.”

“Dear friends and family,

We just got home [Sept. 30th] from a very busy day, starting with a quick trip to Ohio to visit Tom & Sheryl Moore, who have basically been living in the ICU waiting room for one week as of today.  Sheryl "sleeps" in the chairs and Tom "sleeps" in a recliner chair that is located in Tyler's room.  I put "sleeps" in quotes, because how well does one sleep, when in a chair, anxious and worried about one's son?  [Tyler was in an auto accident 9-23-07]

To our surprise we were permitted to go in to see Tyler.  His face had ice packs on it, due to his extensive 6 hour surgery that reconstructed the bones in his face just yesterday.

As we were walking down the hallway, leaving Tyler's ICU room, I had mentioned to Sheryl about how many of you all are praying for Tyler, and she called out, "Tell them to keep praying for Tyler.  Tell them not to forget about him."  A heartfelt cry from a mom, who is staying strong for her son, but needs ongoing encouragement and hope from us, to believe that God can do anything and everything.

What good is prayer, without faith?  Why should we pray and ask God, when we doubt and don't believe for what we are asking?  How does one pray in a situation like this, where the result is so unknown and so critical?  Let me answer from my own opinion, hopefully based on the Scriptures and how Jesus healed people....If we expect little, we'll receive little.  If we expect big, we will receive big.  Ask and believe, and we will receive.  Pray, without doubting, and our prayers will be answered.  But, what if it's not God's will, someone will undoubtedly ask!  AAHHH, that is what we do not know at the time, do we?  I think the answer lies in having childlike faith.  At night, I listen to my little kids pray.  And they pray, "Heal Tyler."  Simple.  Trusting.  They don't analyze it.  They don't look at the medical statistics or Google Tramautic Brain Injuries to see what other people's results were, to try to predict how Tyler's will turn out!  They ask, they believe, and they will receive.  We need to believe more like a child.  And if we harbor any doubt, we pray like the apostles did, "Lord, increase our faith!"  And I strongly believe that we will see Tyler healed, raised up as a godly man to glorify God --- and see firsthand, that modern day miracles DO happen and we are going to see one through him, because Jesus is willing and we are believing.  If we only believe in what is normal for these situations, or prepare ourselves and our minds for the 'worst-case,' then where do you find faith in that picture?  Where is there room for God to show up, except in situations like this?  God will indeed show up, show off His magnificent healing and restorative powers, and we will all rejoice and praise His wonderful and glorious Name, because God is God alone.  There is no other.  He alone is God.  Hear O Israel, the LORD is our God.  The LORD is one.  He is powerful.  He is the creator of all things!  And the more you ask and see God work, the more your personal faith in Him will grow.

So, I write this email, my heart aching desperately for Tom & Sheryl and their two boys, in everyway, yet full of hope and faith and love in my God who is good.  Will we trust Him?  Will we believe that He can and will do this great thing?  I challenge you, believe with me.  Pray with me.  Don't be afraid to ask for Tyler's 100% complete healing.” — Tony & Angela Moore, 9-30-07

“Dear Pastor Cain, I am writing to tell you how much I enjoyed my visit to your church on Sunday Sept. 16.  You had an excellent sermon and I enjoyed the good fellowship and the chance to see people I have been reading about for many months [on our website].  Sincerely, Forrest Colegrove, Wheelersburg OH, (Friend of Fred Schuld).

“Brethren, we received word yesterday afternoon that Pastor Beder Ucanay in Lima, Peru has decided after much prayer and meditation to proceed with surgery on his cancerous eye.   We have provided $600 from our Emergency Medical Mission Fund to cover the cost of the surgery and his hospitalization.  Please pray that the surgery can be scheduled quickly and for God to heal him from this malady. We will let you know as soon as the day and time of surgery is scheduled so that prayers can be offered during Beder's surgery. Pastor Beder and his family appreciate all the prayers that have already been offered on his behalf.”  — David Krogh, 10-2-07

“Coins for Africa”

We have set aside October to use our faithful “spin jug” to collect coins and dollars for Africa.  It has been for camp but we have no one attending this year (that we know of), so at the SS meeting we opted to use Oct. for Africa.  There are several needs there – for example: For buildings, cement ($11.25 per bag) / Tin for roofs ($10.00 per sheet) / Food for orphans ($12.00 per week) / Bibles ($5.00 each).

Your coins and dollars can be a tremendous encouragement to our brethren there!

HOME BIBLE STUDY will be held at Phil and Susan May’s home this coming Tuesday evening (9th) at 7pm.  Anyone is welcome.  I would suggest you call a few hours before the meetings to make sure all systems are go.   Call Pastor Cain at 440-232-3970

EMORY MACY’S family continues to solicit prayer for him. Since falling and breaking his hip just over three weeks ago, he has been unable to snap back and is weaker a little more each day. He is suffering congestive heart failure, has pneumonia and renal failure, so he is  struggling with a great many things and at 95 (96 next week) it is increasingly difficult for him. Our God is a God of miracles, so we would hope for the best, but realize that we may have to accept the inevitable. But please remember him and his family in your prayers. — Kent Ross, 10-3-07
